This article describes the syntax, during import of SBA questions from an Excel file. You can also import tag(s) attached to the question(s)

General information

An excerpt of your uploaded document is shown below, for context. Please indicate which columns to import. A stem and at least two options are required, as well as an answer key. Answer key should be an ordinal number or letter indicating the correct option.

  • First row is header (if the file comes with a header) select the button "Yes, skip first row"
  • Import as select Draft or Published
  • Assessment type (mandatory) select at least one from the list (Exam, Quiz, Form)
  • Perform Import the file will be imported

Note: can take several seconds, depending on the number of questions


Find the menu

  • Go to the menu Question bank/My Questions
  • Click the button Excel import
  • Select the Single best answer option from the drop down list
  • Select your <Excel file> from the file browser

Download the attached Excel-file and add your questions, see instructions below (for a 5 options question). If you have more or less options, simply add or remove columns.. How to populate the columns inside the Excel file:

  • Column A: Question Body
  • Column B: Option 1
  • Column C: Option 2
  • Column D: Option 3
  • Column E: Option 4
  • Column F Option 5
  • Column G: (1-5 or A-E, sample if option two is correct answer, write 2 or B in this column)
  • Column H: Tags (tags will be imported, if more than one, separate them with the sign ",")


Import SBA question(s) from Excel files

  1. Click on Excel Import
  2. Select SBA a browse window appears, select the file you want to import & press Open
