This article describes how to use the AI ASSIST to automatically generate score and feedback to students, possibly saving vast amounts of time. The feedback generated will include both why the student received the score and what the student could have done to achieve a higher score. You can always modify the suggestion from AI ASSIST before setting the final score/feedback.

The AI ASSIST will provide better suggestions if the instructions to evaluators are improved or if the rationale for correct answer is filled out.

The process before the use of AI ASSIST

To reach the step to assess and answer from an Essay question you need to go through a number of steps:
  • Create an <examination> & add yourself as an <Evaluator>, under the tab Task & roles
  • Run <examination> with one or more students. 
  • Close <examination> and start the grading.


Find the meny

  • Login to the platform as an Evaluator
  • Under the menu My Activities, click the link <to the Evaluator site>.



Interface for essay questions

You end up in the interface for assess answers from students. Below we will summarize the main functionalities: 

  1. <Question>, essay question asked to student 
  2. <Marking>,  Instruction for for scoring to Evaluator
  3. <Student response>, the answer the student created for this question
  4. <Evaluation section>, this is the feedback section from the evaluator (=teacher) to the student
    • Student selection, select a <student response> to grade for this question
    • Points, <write the score> (points) you w to give the student
    • Comments, the teacher can (recommended) provide <feedback to the student>
5. Click the button AI Suggestion if you want to use the AI ASSIST functionality.
6. Click the button Save Evaluation if you don't want to use the AI Assist functionality and submit your answers manually. 


 

AI ASSIST functionality

AI ASSIST will help you to provide a suggested score and feedback to the student. 
The interface adds two specific functions with AI functionality:
  • Points (A), Suggestion from AI: if you like to use the AI points, click the blue button  Apply
  • Comments (B), Suggestion from AI: Feedback in 2 parts, click the blue button Apply: 
  • First part of the feedback relate to why the student received the score (e.g. 2 of 4 points
  • The second part relate to what the student could have done to receive a higher score (e.g. Higher than 2 points) 
  • Click the button Save Evaluation
